Engineering Manager - Alma Wallet

Alma is hiring!

About

At Alma, we are convinced that trade must be well balanced to be sustainable. Because finance has a key role in business, our mission is to put it back in its rightful place : at the service of merchants and consumers!

That’s why we create financial products that empower merchants to sell more, and help consumers purchase better products while never encouraging them to get over-indebted.

Our tech solutions are accessible to all, easy to implement, and that eliminate purchase friction.

For merchants, our instalment and deferred payment solutions are excellent ways of increasing customers' loyalty and satisfaction, as well as generating up to 20% extra sales revenues without any risk.

For consumers, the purchase experience is enhanced (4.8/5 on Trustpilot) and Alma helps them handle their budget easily. They pay later, Alma pays the merchants right away.

We are the leader in France, on track to win the European market on the (very) powerful Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) industry, as we’re now processing payments in 10 European countries. Over the past 8 years, more than 25000+ active merchants have chosen Alma to be their innovative BNPL solution, and we have served over 10 million consumers.

The team has grown from 2 to 380+ people, and we raised a €115M Series C in early 2022 to accelerate our growth. Today, Alma is part of the Next40, France's index of the 40 most promising tech companies!

👐 About the team

Alma Wallet builds the payment experience of the Alma app. With the Alma card, consumers can pay with Alma anywhere, not only at our partner merchants. In the app, they manage their payments with the method of their choice: Apple Pay, Google Pay or local payment methods. By taking Alma beyond our merchant network, the Alma card is one of the company's key strategic bets. You will report to Tony, Senior Engineering Manager, and work closely with Justine, Product Manager, to bring it to life.

This position is a CDI based in Paris, with a hybrid work model.

💼 About the job

  • Deliver the Alma Wallet roadmap: the Alma card, and bringing new payment methods (Apple Pay, Google Pay, local payment methods), identity verification and Open Banking to the mobile app.

  • Build an effective delivery system by improving team processes, rituals and collaboration with Product, Design and the other Consumer squads.
  • Deliver a strategic payment roadmap covering the Alma card, Apple Pay and Google Pay, local payment methods, the consumer point-of-sale experience, identity verification and Open Banking.
  • Raise the technical bar and protect reliability through code reviews, technical design discussions and a strong focus on the quality and resilience of payment flows.

🧰 You will work with

  • Mobile: Expo / EAS, React Native, TypeScript, TanStack Query, Redux Toolkit, Zod, Reanimated, Jest, Detox. Payment SDKs: Adyen, Stripe, Checkout.com.

To succeed in this job

  • You have 3+ years of experience managing or leading engineers, including hiring and supporting team development.
  • You have strong hands-on technical credibility in mobile or back-end engineering, and are comfortable reviewing code and leading architecture discussions.
  • You have experience delivering products in a cross-functional squad with Product and Design.
  • You are fluent in both French and English.

And it will be nice if you also

  • Have experience in fintech or another regulated environment.

  • Shape the Alma Wallet squad from the ground up, helping define its ways of working, team culture and engineering practices.
  • Own projects at the heart of Alma’s strategy, including the Alma card, Apple Pay and Google Pay, local payment methods and the evolution of the consumer payment experience.
  • Work on a modern, end-to-end product stack, from Expo, React Native, React 19 and TypeScript 7 on mobile to Python and FastAPI on the back-end.
